One of the things I love most about living here—right next to Casa do Cruzeiro—is that history is quite literally at our feet. From the front door, it takes just two or three minutes on foot before you find yourself walking the same stones as people did centuries ago. This is no exaggeration: the Calçada Medieval, an old Roman road, winds its way up the hill and straight into the heart of the Vila Medieval de Ourém.

I walk this path often. And I always tell our guests—you should too. Because just beyond that stone path, a whole experience is waiting.
